4 New Skoda Cars Launching In India in 2020

We reported earlier that Skoda will launch 5 new cars in the Indian market in the next 2 years. Now, the Skoda Auto India Director – Sales, Service & Marketing, Zac Hollis, confirmed that 4 new Skoda Cars/facelift’s will arrive in our market in 2020. For people not in the know, Skoda and Volkswagen have consolidated into a single entity, called the Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd.

Skoda and Volkswagen also announced to showcase their respective cars at the biennial event, Auto Expo 2020. Skoda will showcase the India-spec Kamiq compact SUV, while Volkswagen will unveil the made-for-India T-Cross compact SUV concept. Both cars will be the part of India 2.0 Project and are scheduled to be launched by mid-2021. These two models will be based on the heavily localied MQB AO IN platform, which will also underpin the next-gen Vento and the Skoda Rapid.

2020 Skoda Kodiaq RS India

Coming back to the Skoda’s plan, the Czech automaker will introduce the Karoq mid-sized SUV in the first half of 2020. This SUV will arrive as a CKD unit and will challenge the likes of the Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass and the Honda CR-V. The brand will also launch the next-gen Skoda Octavia, which will directly rival the segment-leader Honda Civic and the new Hyundai Elantra sedan.

Adding to it, Skoda will also launch the refreshed versions of the Superb and the Kodiaq. The Czech automaker will also launch the performance-oriented Skoda Kodiaq RS. The performance-oriented SUV will derive power from the 2.0-litre twin turbocharged in-line 4-cylinder engine. This engine is capable of producing 236bhp of maximum power at 4,000rpm and 500Nm of torque between 1750rpm- 2500rpm.

Power will be transmitted to all-4 wheels via a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The Kodiaq RS will come through CBU (Completely Built Unit) route and is likely to cost around Rs 40 lakh – Rs 45 lakh.
