Mahindra & Mahindra had launched 2 brand new SUVs – the new Thar and the XUV700 in the past 2 years. Both SUVs have received an overwhelming response from car buyers. The company also plans to launch multiple new Electric SUVs in the market over the period of next 5 years. Here’s a list of top 4 new Mahindra SUVs to be launched in the Indian market before the end of 2023.
1. New Mahindra Scorpio – Launch In 2022
Mahindra will launch the new generation Scorpio SUV in the country before festive season, Diwali 2022. The new model is likely to be unveiled in June, as the Scorpio nameplate will celebrate its 20th anniversary on June 20, 2022. It will be based on the Mahindra’s new ladder-on-frame chassis that underpins the new Thar. It will be offered with 6 and 7-seat layout with former having captain seats in the second-row.
The new model will grow in size and will offer forward-facing third-row seat. The SUV will also receive high-end features such as a 360 degree camera, dual-zone climate control, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an electric sunroof, 6 airbags, terrain modes & connected car tech. The new-gen Mahindra Scorpio is expected to be offered with two engine options – a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The higher variants will also receive a 4×4 drivetrain along with terrain modes & drive modes.
2. Mahindra Thar 5-Door – Launch In 2023
Buoyed by an excellent response for 2-door Thar, Mahindra is now readying a more practical 5-door Thar lifestyle SUV for the Indian market. If reports are to be believed, the new model will arrive in our market in 2023. The new 5-door model will longer than the 2-door Thar. Not just length, the SUV will ride on a longer wheelbase as compared to the 2-door model.
The 5-door Mahindra Thar will use the same 2.0l turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel engines that powers the outgoing model. However, the powertrains will be calibrated for extra power and torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
3. Mahindra eKUV100 – Launch In 2022
Mahindra had showcased the eKUV100 electric mini SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo. The company will launch the new mini EV before the end of 2022. It is in the final stage of development and testing. The new model could be re-launched as e20, as the previous KUV100 hasn’t been much success.
The new Mahindra eKUV100 will come with higher range and bigger battery pack. It is expected to offer higher range of at least 250km and affordable pricing. Mahindra could aim to introduce the new eKUV100 as the most affordable electric car under Rs 10 lakh.
4. New Mahindra XUV300 EV – Launch In Early 2023
Mahindra has started testing the electric version of the XUV300 compact SUV. The company had showcased the eXUV300 concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. The production version is rumoured to be called the Mahindra XUV400 and is scheduled to be launched in 2023.
The new Mahindra XUV400 will be the first model based on Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture (MESMA) platform. This model was equipped with a 350V powertrain, which is expected to be joined by a more powerful 380V powertrain. While the lower-spec model will rival the Nexon EV, the higher variant will be on par with the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona EV. It will be the first electric vehicle to feature the battery cells developed by LG Chem exclusively for India application.
