3 Upcoming Sub-Compact SUVs In 2021: Price Under 10 Lakhs

Automakers are readying a wide range of new SUVs for the Indian market. Consumers are now considering buying sub-4 meter SUVs instead of hatchbacks, as SUVs offer more ground clearance and strong road presence. Here is a list of upcoming new sub-compact SUVs in 2021 that will be priced under Rs 10 lakhs in the Indian market.

Renault Kiger

Renault Kiger Compact SUV

French automaker, Renault will launch the Kiger sub-4 meter SUV in the Indian market in the next 2-3 months. The new model will be based on the Renault-Nissan alliance’s CMF-A modular platform, which also underpins the new Nissan Magnite and the Renault Triber MPV. It will be launched as an affordable alternative to the likes of the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Mahindra XUV300 and the Ford EcoSport.

The Renault Kiger will be offered with 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine in naturally-aspirated and turbocharged versions. While the former is good for 72bhp and 96Nm of torque, the turbocharged petrol engine offers 99bhp and 160Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a CVT X-Tronic Automatic (1.0L Turbo Petrol).

The sub-4 meter SUV will be equipped with several high-end comfort and convenience features such as touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic AC, digital instrument console, cruise control, around view monitor, electric sunroof and many more.

Tata HBX Micro SUV

Tata Motors will launch the production version of the HBX micro SUV in the country in the second quarter of 2021. The new model has been spotted testing several times on the Indian roads. It will be the brand’s second product to be based on the ALFA modular platform, which also underpins the Altroz. The new micro SUV will rival the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT.

The spy images confirm that the upcoming Micro SUV will have Harrier-inspired front fascia, featuring ‘Humanity Line’ front grille, split halogen headlamps with LED DRLs, radiator grille and dual-tone bumper, etc. The SUV shares the interior layout and features with the Altroz hatchback. It gets a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, climate control, a multi-functional steering wheel, a Harman audio system, cruise control, and keyless entry with push button.

The Tata HBX micro SUV will be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine that also powers the Altroz. This engine churns out 86bhp of power and 113Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT.

Citroen C21 SUV

French automaker, Citroen will launch an all-new compact SUV, codenamed C21 in the second half of 2021. If reports are to be believed, the mass market Citroen products will be offered in petrol version only. The sub-4 meter SUV will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is expected to produce around 130bhp of power and close to 200Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and an automatic unit.

The Citroen C21 sub-4 meter SUV will be based on the Groupe PSA CMP (EMP1) platform. This common modular platform currently underpins several global products from Groupe PSA including the Peugeot 208. This platform is compatible with different body styles and types of engines. The Citroen C21 compact SUV will be positioned against the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300 and others in the category.
