Buoyed by excellent response for Seltos and Carnival, Kia Motors is now readying its 3rd product for the Indian market. Called the Kia Sonet, the third new model will be a sub-4 meter SUV to rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV300. Based on the Venue’s platform, the Sonet made its global debut at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The new Kia Sonet shares the engine line-up with the Venue compact SUV, which includes a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. The new model will be the first SUV in its category to feature the IMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) with auto rev function. Adding to it, the diesel Sonet will also receive a six-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox option.

Renault HBC

French automaker, Renault has announced to launch 2 new models based on the Kwid’s platform in India. The company will launch an all-new sub-4 meter SUV, codenamed HBC and an all-new compact sedan (internally called Renault LBA). The sub-4 meter SUV is rumoured to be called the Renault Kiger. It will directly rival the likes of the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and the Maruti Vitara Brezza.

The Renault HBC will only be offered in a petrol version. It will be powered by a new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine called the TCe 100. This engine is capable of producing 99bhp of power and 160Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels will come as standard.

Nissan Compact SUV

In a bid to improve market share, Nissan is now planning to launch an all-new sub-4 meter SUV in India. The company has officially released a couple of teaser images of the SUV, confirming the new model is launching within few months. Based on “Make in India, Make for the World” philosophy, the new Nissan compact SUV will rival the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon and the upcoming Kia Sonet.

It will be based on the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-A+ platform, which also underpins the Renault Triber. The new compact SUV is claimed to be equipped with Nissan’s latest technology and carry the brand’s global SUV DNA. It will be powered by a new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is good for 99bhp and 160Nm of torque.

Expected Launch – April-June 2020
Expected Price – Rs 6 lakh – Rs 8 lakh.
