After introducing the new Glanza, Toyota is now planning to introduce multiple new utility vehicles in the country in the next 2 years. This year, the company will launch 3 new SUVs and the CNG version of the Glanza hatchback.
New Toyota Urban Cruiser
Japanese automaker will launch the new Urban Cruiser sub-4 meter SUV in the next 2 months. The new model will be launched in the next 2 months – by June 2022. Before new Urban Cruiser, MSIL will launch the new Brezza SUV in May 2022. The new model will receive significant design upgrades and all-new interior along with a new engine-gearbox option.
To be based on the existing platform, the new Urban Cruiser is likely to get a new front fascia with new grille and headlamp unit. The SUV will have new tailgate and tail-lights. Inside the cabin, the SUV will get an all-new dashboard layout with central console dominated by a larger touchscreen infotainment system. The infotainment unit will be compatible with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, voice recognition and navigation. Other features will include an electric sunroof, wireless charger, new AC, a SIM-based connected car suite and a 360 degree camera.
The new model will be powered by a new 1.5-litre K15C dualjet petrol engine that powers the new Ertiga. This engine produces 103bhp at 6,000rpm and 136.8Nm of torque at 4,400rpm. Instead of a 4-speed automatic, the new Urban Cruiser will come with a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. A 5-speed manual gearbox will come as a standard.
New Toyota D22 SUV (Creta Rival)
Toyota and Maruti Suzuki are jointly working on a new mid-sized SUV for the Indian market. The Toyota’s version, codenamed D22 is expected to be launched during festive season, before Diwali. It will be positioned against the popular Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. The new model is reportedly to share styling and interior with Toyota’s global SUV – the Corolla Cross.
The new model will be developed on Toyota’s low-cost DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) modular platform that underpins the new Avanza and the Raize. The new model will come with several high-end features like a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity, e-SIM based connectivity features, a sunroof, 360 degree camera, electrically adjustable driver’s seat and others. The SUV is also likely to get ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System).
The new Toyota D22 SUV will be powered by a Toyota’s hybrid technology, which has an electric motor with the internal combustion engine. Moreover, the vehicle will also come with a petrol engine, which could either be a 1.5L NA petrol or a 1.4L turbocharged petrol.
New Toyota Land Cruiser LC300
It is reported that Toyota will launch the new Land Cruiser LC300 in the Indian market by August 2022. The company had quietly started accepting bookings for the new Land Cruiser LC300 in February with deliveries promised by August 2022. However, Toyota has temporarily stopped accepting further bookings due to semiconductor shortage.
The new Toyota Land Cruiser LC300 for India is likely to be powered by a 3.3-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that churns out 305bhp and 700Nm of torque. It is paired to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV is also available with a 415bhp, 3.5L twin-turbo petrol engine with a 10-speed AT. The new Land Cruiser LC300 comes with a 4×4 system as standard.
The new LC300 is based on the GA-F platform, which is a different derivative of TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform. The new architecture is a ladder-on-frame chassis with new high strength steel for improved stiffness.
