3 All-New Sedan Cars Launching in India Soon
Despite rising demand for SUVs, automakers are still banking on sedans to drive sales in the highly competitive Indian market. While SUVs are likely to dominate the majority of Indian auto sales, sedans and hatchbacks will still hold significant market share. At least 3 all-new sedans and several facelifts of existing sedans will be launched in our market in the next couple of years. Here is a list of 3 exciting new sedan cars launching in the Indian market in the next 1 year.
New Honda City
Japanese automaker, Honda will unveil the much-awaited new generation City sedan in Thailand on November 25, 2019. The sedan will go on sale in our market in early 2020, most probably around Auto Expo 2020. The new Honda City will receive all-new design and interior along with BSVI compliant petrol and diesel engines. The Thailand-spec model will also receive the new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with over 120bhp of power. The India-spec model will receive the BSVI versions of the existing 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. The company could also launch the turbocharged version of the sedan; though official announcement is yet to be made. Honda is also working on the hybrid version of the new City, which is expected to arrive in late 2020.
Hyundai Aura
Hyundai has officially announced that the company’s upcoming new car will be a compact sedan, called the Hyundai Aura. This sedan will be based on the new Grand i10 Nios platform and is expected to replace the Xcent. It will directly rival the Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze and the Ford Aspire. The sub-4 meter sedan is expected to be offered with BSVI compliant 1.2-litre petrol and diesel engines. The Aura has already been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads. The spy images suggest that the Hyundai Aura will carry a more sedan-like profile rather than the notchback-type styling in the Xcent.
New Skoda Octavia
Czech automaker, Skoda will officially launch the new Octavia sedan in the country in 2020. Likely to be unveiled at 2020 Auto Expo, the 2020 Skoda Octavia receives significant design changes, new interior and updated engine line-up. In terms of the styling, the new sedan gets new LED headlamps, edgier grille and fog lamps. It rides on larger 19-inch alloy wheels. It is 19mm longer and 15mm wider than the previous model. While the wheelbase remains unchanged, it offers more cabin space and cargo volume (increased by 10L). The new Skoda Octavia is based on the Volkwagen Group’s MQB platform. It features a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, head-up display and a built-in eSIM. The India-spec model is likely to get a BSVI compliant 2.0-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engines.
