2023 Toyota Innova New Gen Could Be Called Innova Zenix

We informed you earlier that Toyota will launch the next-gen Innova in the country in the next 1 year. It is expected to be revealed before the end of this year; however, Toyota is yet to make an official announcement on the same. The new model was rumoured to be called the Innova HyCross, as the name has already been trademarked. A new media report claims that the next-gen Innova could be called the 2023 Toyota Innova Zenix MPV.

The next-gen Innova Zenix MPV will be a completely different from the outgoing Innova, which is on sale since 2015. Instead of the ladder-frame chassis with rear-wheel-drive layout, the new model will be based on a new modern, monocoque, front-wheel-drive set-up. The new model will be based on the Toyota’s global TNGA-C or GA-C (Global Architecture).

Previous reports reveal that the new Innova is likely to have a wheelbase of around 2,850mm, which is 100mm longer than the current Innova Crysta. The Innova Zenix name has been registered in Phillipines, Indonesia and Malaysia. It is reported that the Zenix name could be used on the top-spec variant of the new Innova or the hybrid variants. It is expected that the HyCross name could only be used in India while the Zenix name will be used in overseas markets.

The new Toyota Innova HyCross will be sold alongside the existing Innova Crysta, which is hugely popular among fleet as well as private customers. The existing model will receive a mild makeover and is likely to target fleet operators in the country. It is reported that the new Innova could receive a more modern, crossover-ish profile. The new model is likely to share design highlights with the new Veloz MPV, which is on sale in Indonesia and Thailand. Thanks to the monocoque architecture, the new Innova HyCross or Zenix will be lighter than the outgoing model. This will help in achieving higher fuel efficiency and performance.

The new Toyota Innova HyCross or Innova Zenix is likely to be powered by a 2.0-litre petrol hybrid powertrain. The company is expected to use the localised version of the new THS II (Toyota Hybrid System II). This system has a twin-motor setup calibrated to deliver high ‘step-off’ torque and better efficiency. The new Innova won’t be offered with a diesel engine.
