2023 Tata Safari With Petrol Engine To Rival New Scorpio N – More Details

After the successful launch of XUV700 and new Thar, Mahindra is now ready to shake the 7-seater SUV market with the introduction of new Scorpio-N. The new Mahindra Scorpio-N will directly rival the Tata Safari, which was launched in 2021. While the Safari is offered in a single diesel engine option, the new Scorpio will come with petrol and diesel engine options. Moreover, all the 7-seater SUVs in the segment are offered with petrol engine.

The lack of petrol engine has impacted the sales of the Safari SUV; however, things will change in the near future. Tata Motors has started testing the petrol derivative of the new Safari and the Harrier SUVs. Both models will receive a mid-life facelift in 2023. Not just petrol engine, the new Safari and Harrier will come with multiple changes in terms of features and interior quality.

The 2023 Tata Safari facelift is expected to be powered by a new in-house developed 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. This engine is reportedly to be the 4-cylinder engine based on the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Revotron turbo petrol engine that powers the Nexon. The new turbocharged petrol is expected to offer a maximum power of 160bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The same powertrain will be used in the upcoming Tata Harrier facelift.

Tata Motors is also preparing a new mid-sized SUV based on the Curvv concept. The new SUV Coupe will be positioned between the Nexon and the Harrier, and will be offered with electric, petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol version is likely to get the de-tuned version of the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

2023 Tata Safari Facelift

The new 2023 Tata Safari facelift is expected to receive ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistant System) with features like blind spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane assist and others. The Safari’s direct rival, the Mahindra XUV700, also comes with ADAS, as this feature is getting popular among Indian buyers. Moreover, the SUV could receive few design tweaks and more features inside.

The existing Safari comes equipped with a 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, iRA connected car tech, a semi-digital instrument console, panoramic sunroof, Xenon HID projector headlamps, fog lamps with cornering function, 9 speaker JBL audio system, 6 way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, hill decent control, electronic parking brake with auto hold and terrain response modes.

The new Safari facelift will continue to be powered by a 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine that churns out 168bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
