2023 Tata Altroz Testing Begins; 1st Spy Images Out

Recently, a heavily camouflaged test mule of the Tata Altroz premium hatchback caught on camera. As of now, there is no clarity whether its hatch’s updated version, electric iteration or CNG variant. While the camouflage managed to cover all design details of the 2023 Tata Altroz, one can notice the rear defogger and monotone alloy wheels. The existing model comes with the dual-tone alloys.

Just so you know, the Altroz was introduced in early 2020 in five trim levels – XE, XM, XT, XZ and XZ (O). It’s arch rival – Maruti Suzuki Baleno recently received a mid-life update that helped boost its monthly sales. In order to withstand competition, the home-grown automaker might come up with the 2023 Tata Altroz facelift.

Currently, Tata’s premium hatchback is available with the 1.2L, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol (86PS/113Nm), 1.2L i-turbo (110PS/140Nm) and 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo diesel (90PS/200Nm) engine options. While the naturally aspirated gasoline unit delivers fuel efficiency of 18.53kmpl, the iTurbo promises 18.13kmpl. The oil burner returns a claimed mileage of 23.03kmpl.

2023 Tata Altroz Spied

Tata has been testing the Altroz CNG for a while. Its prototype has already been spied with emission testing equipment. If launched, the model is likely to come with the 1.2L turbo petrol engine paired to the factory-fitted CNG kit.

Talking about Tata Altroz EV, the electric hatchback made its public debut at the 2022 Auto Expo. The model features a closed off-grille, updated front and rear bumpers, front air dam with star pattern, newly-designed alloy wheels with blue highlights, blacked-out tailgate and repositioned badges. Inside, it has lighter upholstery with a rotary gear selector.

While official specifications of the Altroz EV are yet to be revealed, it’s likely to come with Tata’s Ziptron powertrain. The setup includes a permanent magnet AC motor powering the front wheels via a single gearbox. The hatchback’s electric range will be around 250-300km on a single charge.
