Japanese automaker, Toyota has launched the new Innova Zenix in the Indonesian market. The India-spec model will be called the new Innova Hycross and will be marketed as a crossover. The existing Innova Crysta is based on IMV or ladder-on-frame chassis and is only offered in the rear-wheel-drive layout. The new Innova Hycross will be based on the TNGA-C modular platform with front-wheel-drive set-up. It is around 170kg lighter than the RWD Crysta. The new model is offered with two engine options – a 2.0L 4-cylinder petrol and a 2.0L TNGA petrol with 5th gen Toyota Hybrid System.
Paired to a CVT automatic gearbox, the 2.0L petrol engine produces 174PS of power at 6600rpm and a peak torque of 205Nm at 4500-4900rpm. On the flip side, the hybrid system offers a combined power of 186PS and the maximum usable power stands at 206Nm. The petrol engine in the hybrid set-up offers 152PS at 6000rpm and 187Nm at 4400-5200rpm, while the electric motor offers power and torque worth 113PS and 206Nm. It is paired to an e-CVT transmission.
The company claims that the GA-C or TNGA-C platform allows Toyota engineers to increase body rigidity, reduce car weight, and improve NVH levels. Moreover, the lighter weight and advanced hybrid set-up contributes to its higher fuel efficiency.
The 2023 Toyota Innova Zenix petrol version is claimed to offer a fuel efficiency of 15kmpl, which is also higher than the current Innova (claimed 14kmpl) on sale in Indonesia. What’s interesting is that the Innova hybrid will return a fuel efficiency of 21kmpl, making it the most fuel efficient model in its category. Both gasoline and hybrid are more economical than diesel.
Speaking to media, Anton Jimmi Sunwandy, Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) said that the Kijang Innova Zenix has better performance and acceleration than the sixth gen Kijang Innova. “In terms of acceleration, this car has a new engine, lighter weight, better power to weight ration, around 70% (better)” he added.
Dimensions
In terms of proportions, the new Innova is 4,755mm long, 1,850mm wide and 1,795mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,850mm. The crossover has a ground clearance of 185mm. The SUV is offered in 3 wheel sizes – 16-inch, 17-inch and 18-inch wrapped in 205/65, 215/60 and 225/60 section tyres respectively.
For Safety & Security, the new Innova gets up to six airbags, parking sensor, VSC & HSA, parking camera, panoramic view monitor, child restraint system and others. The crossover comes with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 with ADAS tech. It offers pre-collision system, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert & lane tracing assist and automatic high beam.
