2023 Hyundai Verna – Diesel Engine, Bigger Size, Launch Details

The Korean automaker, Hyundai is preparing to launch a wide range of new cars including the new Ai3 mini SUV, Creta facelift, Ioniq 5 EV, new Carnival and the next-gen Verna. In fact, the next-gen Verna sedan has already been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian market. The 2023 Hyundai Verna sedan will come with significant design changes and all-new interior along with new engine options.

2023 Hyundai Verna – Only Diesel Sedan

With the upcoming stricter Real Driving Emission norms, most of the automakers are planning to phase out diesel engine from the Indian market. Honda has already decided to discontinue to the 1.5-litre diesel engine that powers the City and Amaze sedans. On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki, Renault-Nissan and Volkswagen Group have already discontinued their diesel engines from our market.

On the other hand, Hyundai has decided to continue with the diesel engine option from the Indian market. We reported earlier that Hyundai will discontinue the i20 diesel from 2023. Majority of the i20 sales come from petrol engine options and diesel accounts for less than 10 per cent. Hyundai will upgrade the 1.5-litre diesel engine to meet the Real Driving Emission norms. This engine will continue to power the Venue, Creta, Verna and Alcazar. The Venue gets the 100bhp, 1.5L diesel engine, while the new Verna, Creta and Alcazar will continue to get the 115bhp engine with a variable geometry turbo (VGT). The Venue’s 1.5L diesel engine comes with the fixed-geometry turbo. Apart from diesel engine, the new Verna is likely to be offered with 1.4L turbo petrol and 1.5L NA petrol engine options.

2023 Hyundai Verna – Bigger Dimensions

The spy images confirm that the new gen Hyundai Verna will grow in size, which will translate into more space inside the cabin. The bigger size and spacious cabin will help the new Verna to compete against the Honda City, Skoda Slavia and the VW Virtus. The bigger size, high-end features and more powerful engine of the new Verna will eliminate the need for a separate executive sedan in our market.

Design & Features

Internally called the Project BN7, the new Verna will share styling cues from the new-gen Elantra sedan. The sedan will be designed on Hyundai’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language, which we have already seen on the new Elantra and the Tucson. It will have a new parametric-jewel-pattern grille with turn signal integration wide. The new cascading grille at the front comes with integrated full-LED headlamp and aggressive bumper.

The spy images reveal that the new Verna will have a fastback-like styling with a tapered roof. The rear profile is likely to feature the high-tech “H-Tail Lamp” that creates a Hyundai flying H logo-like shape, a wing-type lower bumper treatment and a tapered roofline to enhance the coupe-like look.

The 2023 Hyundai Verna sedan will come equipped with an all-digital instrument console and a revised infotainment system with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity. The sedan is likely to feature front ventilated seats. The biggest update will come in the form of ADAS ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) technology. The ADAS features will include  forward collision mitigation, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic assistance and driver attention monitoring.

2023 Hyundai Verna Launch Timeline

The new Verna sedan is expected to be unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo in January. The exact launch timeline is yet to be revealed; however, reports claim that Hyundai has fast paced the development of the new Verna sedan. We expect the new model to go on sale in Q2, 2023, around April-May.
