Japanese automaker, Toyota has revealed a new limited edition of the Fortuner SUV for the Thailand market. Called the new Fortuner Commander, the new limited-run special edition is based on the standard model. Only 1000 units of the SUV will be produced. The Toyota Fortuner Commander comes with several cosmetic updates along with a retuned suspension set-up.
The Toyota Fortuner Commander gets cosmetic design updates. Instead of the silver and chrome inserts on the bumper and skid plate, the SUV gets black finish. The SUV shares the alloy wheels with the top-spec Fortuner Legender. The roof is finished in a contrasting shade of black. Chrome detailing between the tail-lights have been replaced by black finish.
Inside the cabin, the Toyota Fortuner Commander has similarities with the Fortuner Legender. It shares the dual-tone red and black leather upholstery with the Legender; however, Toyota has made some changes to give it a different feel. In terms of features, the limited-run special edition gets a 360 degree camera, blind spot monitoring and a rear cross-traffic alert.
The new Toyota Fortuner Commander retains the same engine gearbox options that is offered with the standard model. It is powered by a 2.4-litre iesel engine that produces 148bhp and 400Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox. In India, the Fortuner is only available with a more powerful 2.8-litre diesel engine.
Toyota claims to have improved the suspension set-up for the special edition. It is claimed to offer improved ride quality as compared to the standard Fortuner.
