We reported earlier that new 5-door Suzuki Jimny LWB model could come with a turbocharged petrol engine to counter the increase of weight and size. International media reports suggest that the 2022 Suzuki Jimny LWB could receive a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which currently powers the international-spec Swift Sport.
The 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine is currently offered as the ICE-only powerplant; however, the 2022 Suzuki Jimny LWB is reportedly to get a turbo petrol engine with a mild hybrid system. While powering the Swift Sport, the 1.4L turbo petrol engine produces 127bhp of power and 235Nm of torque. The numbers look okay for a lifestyle SUV measuring under 4 meters in length.
Suzuki could tweak this engine to add a mild hybrid system, which should help in improving the fuel efficiency. It is quite early to comment whether the India-spec 5-door Jimny will receive this engine. The 3-door model is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that is good for 101bhp of power and 130Nm of torque. The same engine could power the India-spec Jimny, as this powertrain is currently produced in India. This will help MSIL to price the new model competitively in the market.
2022 Suzuki Jimny LWB Dimensions
The leaked documents reveal that the new 5-door Jimny will have a 300mm longer wheelbase, and the length will be increased by 300mm. The LWB model will measure 3,850mm in length, 1,645mm in width and 1,730mm in height. The SUV will have a wheelbase of 2,550mm, while the ground clearance stands at 210mm. It will have a kerb weight of 1190kg, which is 100kgs higher than the 3-door Sierra.
The SUV will receive few changes in terms of styling. It is expected to get a redesigned front grille with a single horizontal slat replacing the current five-slot vertical setup. Suzuki will also give a mild facelift to the existing 3-door Jimny.
India Launch & Expected Price
It is reported that the 2022 Suzuki Jimny LWB will make global debut in the end of 2021 or early 2022. Media reports suggest that the new model will be launched in our market by July 2022. To be positioned below 4 meters in length, the new Jimny could cost somewhere around Rs 10 lakh.
