2022 Mahindra Scorpio Will Be High On Safety – Will it Get 5 Star Rating?

Mahindra & Mahindra has dropped yet another teaser of the much-awaited third-generation Scorpio SUV. The latest teaser states that “The New Mahindra SUV Makes Even The Crash Dummy Feel Safe” and it has a poll with 94% votes on the Yes and 6% on the No tab. It hints that the new 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will be high on safety and it’s likely to achieve 5 star safety rating in the crash tests. The carmaker also claims that the new Mahindra SUV will offer “tech from the future” and “fast even in slow motion”. This time around, the Scorpio is likely to be offered with a touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Alexa, a semi digital instrument cluster, a 360 degree camera, an electric sunroof and a flat bottom steering with mounted controls. There might also be an 8-speaker 3D Sony audio system (sourced from the Thar) and dual-tone leather seats.

Underpinning a new platform, the new 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will be lighter than the current generation model. It’s estimated to be lighter around 100kg to 150kg. Besides this, the SUV will come with two more powerful engines – a 2.0L turbo petrol and a 2.2L turbo diesel. The oil burner is reported to deliver two different power outputs – 130bhp with 300Nm and 155bhp with 360Nm. While the 130bhp version will be available on lower variants, the higher diesel variants will get the more powerful diesel unit.

The new Scorpio can be had with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission. Reports suggest that the 4X4 drivetrain will be offered with both petrol and diesel powertrains. The SUV model lineup will come in 6 and 7-seats configurations with former offering captain seats and jump seats for the third row.
