American SUV maker, Jeep has finally launched the new Grand Cherokee SUV in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 77.5 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been launched as a CKD unit. India is the first market where the new Cherokee is being assembled outside of North America. The new model rivals the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5 and the Land Rover Discovery.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Design
Featuring Jeep’s signature look, the new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee design seems inspired from the larger Grand Wagoneer on sale in international markets. The front fascia of the new Cherokee features the traditional seven-slat grille, sleek LED headlamps and a prominent bumper that has wide side and central air intakes. There is a strong belt-line that runs from the headlamps to the tail-lamps. It comes with a squared wheel arches and a blacked-out part in the C-pillar that gives it a floating roof effect. At the back, the new Grand Cherokee has slim LED tail-lights, Wagoneer-inspired tailgate with a prominent number plate and a chunky bumper.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Interior
The new Grand Cherokee comes with all-new interior with new dashboard featuring multiple screens. It has a central 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that merges nicely with the lower-placed AC controls. The AC vents are placed above the touchscreen infotainment unit. There is a dedicated 10.1-inch touchscreen unit for the front passenger as well. The dashboard is finished in premium leather, wood and gloss black inserts.
The global-spec model is offered in two versions – a 5-seater model and a 3-row version called the Grand Cherokee L. Similar to the previous model, the new Cherokee for India is offered in a 5-seater guise. It comes with a configurable 10.25-inch fully digital instrument console, a 10-inch head-up display and a wireless charging system. The SUV features Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, rear seat entertainment screens, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, powered tailgate and leather upholstery.
Specifications
The new Grand Cherokee is only available in a single turbo petrol engine option. It is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces 272bhp and 400Nm of torque. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and power is transmitted to all four wheels via a four-wheel drive system. The new Cherokee also comes with selectable terrain modes – Auto, Sport, Mud/Sand and Snow.
