2022 Honda City Hybrid Launching Today – Price Expectations

The much-anticipated 2022 Honda City Hybrid is all set to go on sale in the Indian market today. The new model will be offered in a single top-of-the-line ZX variant with Honda Sensing Technology. Interested buyers can pre-book the sedan online or at authorised Honda dealership.

The new City e:HEV or hybrid will be positioned above the existing ICE version, which is priced between Rs 11.29 lakh to Rs 15.04 lakh. We expect the City hybrid to cost around Rs 18 lakh, which is around Rs 3 lakh expensive than the City ZX CVT variant.

The new Honda City hybrid has already received enough bookings that stretched its waiting period up to 6 months. It will be locally manufactured at Honda’s Tapukara based plant; however, the battery system will come as an import.

Powertrain

The new Honda City hybrid is equipped with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that runs on Atkinson cycle. The vehicle also gets two electric motors and a battery pack placed inside the boot. The one electric motor acts as a generator, while the other motor works as traction motor connected to the wheels. The petrol engine produces 98bhp and 127Nm, while the electric motor offers 109bhp and 253Nm from 0 rpm. The combined usable power and torque stands at 126bhp and 253Nm.

The new City hybrid comes with a lithium-ion battery that’s fitted in the boot and weighs 14.5kgs. It features a single, fixed gear ratio and offers 3 drive modes – Petrol Only, Electric and Hybrid. The sedan is claimed to offer an ARAI certified fuel economy of 26.5kmpl.

Safety Features

The new City hybrid comes with ADAS features such as Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM), Lane Keep Assist System, Adaptive Cruise Control and Auto-High Beam. The sedan also gets 37 Honda Connect features with SmartWatch integration and Alexa and Ok Google support.

Other safety features include 6 airbags, all 5 seats with 3-point emergency locking retractor seatbelts, rear disc brakes, electric parking brake, automatic brake hold system, LaneWatch Camera, rear view camera & sensors, brake assist with EBD, vehicle stability assist with electronic stability and traction control, agile handling assist, hill start assist, TPMS, automatic headlamps with light sensor, etc.
