The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan 5-seater SUV India launch has been delayed due to rising COVID-19 cases. The SUV was planned to be launched in early May 2021. It is expected that the new model will be launched in June-July 2021. Earlier, Skoda postponed the launch of the Octavia sedan to May end.
For people not in the know, Volkswagen had discontinued the Tiguan in 2020. The company had unveiled the updated model in March 2021, which comes with design changes and BS6 compliant engine.
The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan comes with a completely re-styled front fascia, which now features a new front grille and sharper headlamps. The front design is inspired by the European Touareg and the Atlas Cross. The top-end variant will also get the new LED Matrix headlamps. The SUV gets new front bumper with triangular-shaped fog lamp clusters and revised air-intakes. Other changes include new alloys, L-shaped LED tail-lamps, revised bumper with a diffuser plate and ‘TIGUAN’ lettering on the centre of the tailgate.
The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan retains most of the features and dashboard layout, which is similar to the Tiguan AllSpace. It gets a touch interface for the climate control system. The SUV features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, an electric panoramic sunroof, connected car tech and leather seats. It is equipped with a 3-zone climate control and an 8-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat.
The Tiguan facelift will be equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill start and descent assist, and a tyre pressure monitoring system for safety and security. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre, turbo-petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 187bhp and a peak torque of 320Nm. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG. The SUV will also get Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.
Expected to be priced under Rs 30 lakh, the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan will rival the Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass and the Citroen C5 Aircross.
