The fourth-generation Toyota Highlander SUV was first previewed at the New York International Auto Show last year. Now, the Japanese carmaker has confirmed that the 7-seater SUV will see a release in the European markets from early 2021. The Europe-spec 2021 Toyota Highlander will be offered with a hybrid powertrain. It includes a 2.5L petrol engine with electric motors fitted at each axle. The combined power output of the system stands at 241bhp. The SUV comes with an eCVT automatic gearbox and an AWD (all-wheel-drive) system. Following WLTP standards, the new Highlander is claimed to emit 146g/km of CO2 and consume 6.6L/100km.

The SUV has a Drive Mode Select switch enabling the drive to select between four driving modes – Eco, Normal, Sport and Trail. Based on the TNGA-K (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform, the 2021 Toyota Highlander measures 4,950mm in length, 1,930mm in width and 1,730mm in height. The premium 7-seater SUV sits on a 2,850mm long wheelbase. It offers a luggage space of 658-litres and it can be expanded to up to 1,909-litres by folding the second and third row seats. For easy ingress-egress to the third row, the second-row seats offer a sliding range of 180mm.

2021 Toyota Highlander Interior

Interior comes with two colour schemes – Black and Graphite. There is a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Features such as wireless phone charging, satellite navigation, a switchable digital rear view mirror and a head-up display are also on offer.
