The second-generation Mahindra XUV500, which is currently in its final testing stage, is reported to hit roads in third quarter of 2021. The SUV will take a big leap in terms of design, features, engine mechanism and performance. One of the biggest changes will be made under the hood. The 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will be offered with the new 2.0L mStallion turbo petrol and 2.2L mHawk diesel engines.
Previewed at the last year’s Auto Expo, the new 2.0L mStallion gasoline motor will deliver power worth 190bhp and 350Nm of torque. It will be Mahindra’s most powerful petrol engine till date. In fact, it will be the most powerful turbo-petrol unit in its segment that includes MG Hector Plus and the upcoming new Tata Safari.
The Hector Plus and the upcoming Safari that use a 2.0L turbo diesel engine, promise power worth 170bhp against 350Nm of torque. The new XUV500’s diesel engine will offer a peak power of 180bhp.
The new-generation XUV500 will be more powerful than its segment above Jeep Compass. The updated Jeep Compass comes with 1.4L turbo petrol and 2.0L turbo diesel motors, which are good for 161bhp and 250Nm and 171bhp and 350Nm respectively. The new Mahindra SUV will come with the 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox options. The AWD system could be reserved for diesel trims.
The 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will come with a host of new features including level 1 autonomous technology (ADAS – advanced driver assistant systems), a 360 degree camera, a Mercedes-Benz-inspired dual screen setup for infotainment system and digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, a 3D panoramic vision for driver, an eyelid tracking mechanism, wireless charging, automatic climate control, powered front seats, leather upholstery, connected car technology and many more. The SUV will also witness comprehensive design changes along with bigger dimensions.
