We reported earlier that the new-generation Mahindra XUV500 will come equipped with segment-first ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). MG Motors is also reportedly planning to add ADAS in the Hector Plus, which will soon receive a 7-seater version. The company will introduce a new top-spec Savvy variant to the Hector Plus 6-seater line-up.
The new Hector Plus Savvy will be equipped with Advance Driver Assistance Systems. It will have features like adaptive cruise control, frontal collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, hands-free auto parking and blind spot detection.
Similarly, the new generation XUV500 will receive ADAS for active driver assistance features. Mahindra had joined hands with South Korean Mando company to source ADAS. The company has ordered front radar and front camera, which are used in Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB). The radar sensor will be placed behind the grille or windshield to monitor driving parameters such as speed, acceleration and proximity of the vehicle to obstacles. This sensor directs these information to AEB driver assistance system. The SUV will also receive Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Park Assist.
The updated Hector Plus Savvy is expected to be launched in January 2021, while the new XUV500 will go on sale by March-April 2021. The new Hector Plus is available in 3 engine options – a 170hp, 2.0-litre diesel motor with a 6-speed manual gearbox, a 143hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed DCT automatic, and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol paired to a 48V mild-hybrid system with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The new XUV500 will be powered by the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the new Thar; however, this engine will offer power up to 190bhp. The SUV will also receive the BS6-compliant 2.2-litre diesel engine, which is expected to produce close to 180bhp of power.
