2021 Hyundai Kona EV Revealed – Changes Explained

After introducing the updated Kona hybrid and the regular model, Hyundai has revealed the updated 2021 Kona EV. The new 2021 Hyundai Kona EV comes with updated exterior and interior along with new mechanical changes.

2021 Hyundai Kona EV Exterior Changes

The new Kona Electric has received several design changes to keep things fresh in the market. It comes with a revised front fascia with a new closed grille with clean design and new LED daytime running lights. There is an asymmetric charging port, which is unique to the Kona Electric. The newly-styled sharper headlamps stretch around the side of the car. The high-tech headlamp inner bezel now incorporates multifaceted reflector (MFR) technology.

There are new vertical air inlets in front of the wheel arch claddings, which claims to enhance its aerodynamics. The revised lower bumper has newly-styled air intake with horizontal satin accent bars.

At the back, the 2021 Hyundai Kona EV gets revised bumper and new horizontally-stretched rear lamps. The new model is 40mm longer than the previous model.

2021 Hyundai Kona EV Interior Changes

The new Kona Electric now comes equipped with a larger 10.25-inch digital instrument console. It also gets an optional 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and Hyundai Bluelink connected car solutions. Customers can also opt for the 8-inch display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The new Kona EV customers can also use the new Bluelink upgrade. The app displays the vehicle’s range and battery state, as well as charging times. Thanks to Remote Charging, new Kona Electric drivers can start and stop charging at the push of a button on their smartphone via the Bluelink® app. It also gets Remote Climate Control.

The SUV gets new ambient light technology that illuminates the passenger and driver side footwell. The company is also giving two interior colour packages – single-tone black package and a two-tone grey package.

Powertrain & Range

The long-range version gets a 64kWh battery that features an electric motor delivering 204PS of power and 395Nm of torque. This model accelerates to 100kmph from zero in 7.9 seconds and offers a class-leading range of 484kms on a single charge.

The basic version gets a 39.2kWh battery pack, delivering 136PS and 395Nm. This model achieves 0-100kmph in 9.9 seconds and offers a range of up to 305kms. The long-range battery version provides a maximum speed of 167 km/h, with the standard-range battery version offering 155 km/h.

The SUV comes with shift-by-wire system that enables operation of the car simply by pressing buttons to switch driving modes. It has smart adjustable regenerative braking system. The battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 47 minutes using a 100 kW DC fast charger.
