The 2020 Toyota Fortuner facelift now gets a more powerful 2.8L turbo-diesel engine producing 204bhp and 500Nm of torque.

Japanese automaker, Toyota has announced to launch the 2020 Fortuner facelift and the new Hilux lifestyle pick-up in Thailand on June 4, 2020. The new 2020 Toyota Fortuner facelift will also arrive in our market before the end of this year, most probably around festive season. The updated model comes with significant design changes, new features and more powerful diesel engine.

Ahead of the official unveil, all details and engine specifications of the 2020 Toyota Fortuner facelift has been leaked on the Internet. Before talking about the design changes and feature upgrades, let’s talk about what has changed under the hood. The biggest upgrade is made to the 2.8-litre diesel engine, which is tuned to offer power over 200bhp.

The report claims that the 2.8-litre turbo GD diesel engine has been updated to produce 204bhp of power and 500Nm of torque, which is an increase of 27bhp and 50Nm. In the outgoing model, this engine churns out 177bhp of power at 3,400rpm and 420Nm of torque with manual gearbox and 450Nm of torque with 6-speed automatic gearbox.

This new engine will also power the new Hilux pick-up, which has been teased in a video. The new Fortuner will be available in both 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive layout. The Thailand-spec model will continue to feature the 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine that produces 150bhp at 3,400rpm and 400Nm of torque between 1,600-2,000rpm. This engine is paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox, and available in both 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive layout.

Talking about the design changes, the new 2020 Toyota Fortuner facelift gets new projector LED Bi-Beam LED headlamps, newly styled grille inspired by the RAV4 SUV and new front bumper. It also gets newly styled 18-20-inch alloy wheels and new side steps. At the back, the new Fortuner gets newly designed tail-lamps and new bumper.

Inside the cabin, the overall layout will remain the same. The new model comes equipped with an all-new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other features include 360 degree surround view camera, automatic boot opener, wireless phone charging, etc.

The upcoming Toyota Fortuner facelift also gets Toyota safety sense, which includes collision and automatic brakes pre-collision system, lane departure warning system with automatic steering wheel delay, lane keeping assist and variable automatic speed control system, and dynamic radar cruise control.
