2020 Toyota Corolla Gets 5 Stars In Latin NCAP Crash Test

The 2020 Toyota Corolla (Brazil-spec) has been crash tested by Latin NCAP in the latest round of safety tests. The sedan has achieved 5 stars for adult and child protection with scores of 29.41 out of 34 points and 45 out of 49 points respectively. The vehicle’s bodyshell was also rated as stable and “capable of withstanding further loadings”.

In the frontal impact test, the 2020 Toyota Corolla provided good protection to the driver and passenger’s head and neck. While the driver chest showed marginal protection, the passenger chest showed good protection. The sedan offered good protection in side impact and side pole impact tests. Its ESC (electronic stability control) also met the regulatory requirements of Latin NCAP.

The tested model was equipped with driver and passenger frontal airbags, side head airbags, side body airbags, side curtain airbags and driver knee airbags. Safety features such as anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), ISOFIX child mount, seat belt reminder and front seatbelt pretensioners are also on offer.

Based on the brand’s TNGA platform, the 2020 Toyota Corolla (Brazil-spec) comes with two powertrains – a 2.0L petrol and a 1.8L petrol coupled to two electric motors. In India, the Corolla (existing model) is available with a 1.8L petrol and a 1.4L diesel engine options. Both powertrains are likely to be upgraded to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms.
