2020 Nissan Kicks Turbo Launch Soon; Gets 156bhp Engine
We reported earlier that Nissan will launch the BSVI compliant Kicks mid-sized SUV in the country in the next few months. The 2020 Nissan Kicks will be offered with petrol engine only. The Nissan-Renault alliance has decided to remove the 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine from the India line-up. The biggest news is that the new Kicks will be offered with a new 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.
Internally called the HR13DDT, the new 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine was first shown at Auto Expo 2020. The new engine was debuted with the Renault Duster Turbo at the biennial event. This powertrain is capable of producing 156bhp of power and 254Nm of torque, which will make the Nissan Kicks the most powerful mid-sized SUV in India. What’s interesting is that this engine will be paired to an 8-step CVT automatic gearbox. A 6-speed manual gearbox could be offered as optional.
The new 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine is co-developed by Daimler and Nissan-Renault Alliance. This engine powers some of the global models including the Mercedes A-Class and the GLA. The upcoming BSVI Kicks 1.3L will be priced competitively. It will be offered with the top-of-the-line variants, while the entry-level models will continue to feature the existing 106bhp, 1.5-litre petrol engine.
The Nissan Kicks Turbo is likely to receive some high-end features like automatic AC, cruise control, 360 degree camera, multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, hill-start assist, hill descent control, traction control, etc. The SUV will directly rival the all-new Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
Nissan is also gearing up for the launch of the much-awaited Magnite sub-4 meter SUV, which will be based on the CMF-A+ modular platform. This model is rumoured to be priced as low as Rs 5.25 lakh. It will be offered with 2 engine options – a 71bhp, 1.0L NA petrol and a 99bhp, 1.0L turbo petrol. The SUV will rival the petrol compact SUVs including Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon and others.
