Major change has been made under the hood. The 2020 Maruti S-Cross has ditched the old BS4 1.3L diesel engine for the new BS6-compliant 1.5L, 4-cylinder petrol motor. The gasoline unit, which was first seen in the Ciaz sedan, delivers a claimed power of 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox comes as standard, while a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission is an optional offering.
The automatic gearbox has been offered on the three higher variants. Unlike the BS4 diesel model that had mild hybrid technology across the range, the BS6 Maruti S-Cross petrol gets the SHVS system on the automatic variants only. Suzuki’s SHVS system consists of a large battery pack for energy storage produced from braking regeneration system. The stored energy is delivered to the wheels through ISG (integrated starter generator). The mild hybrid technology not only ensures better performance, but improves fuel efficiency as well.
