All-New Mahindra XUV500, Scorpio, Thar Launch Details Confirmed
Talking to an online media publication, Pawan Goenka, Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., confirmed that the 2020 Mahindra XUV500 (codenamed W601) will be launched in the next fiscal year starting April 2020. The 2020 Mahindra Scorpio (codenamed Z101) and 2020 Mahindra Thar (W501) SUVs will hit roads in fiscal year 2021.
All three new-generation models will witness significant design changes along with a pack of new features and new BS6-compliant powertrains. Talking about the 2020 Mahindra XUV500, the SUV is likely to get a more powerful 2.2L diesel engine pushing out power close to 180bhp. Rumour has it that the new XUV500 might also be offered with a petrol engine.
The 2020 Mahindra Scorpio petrol is also on the cards. Though, the engine details are still under the wraps. The SUV’s existing 2.0L diesel motor will be tuned for generating more power (up to 20bhp) and meet the upcoming BS6 emission standards. While the existing motor makes 138bhp, the new oil burner will deliver a maximum power of 158bhp.
The 2020 Mahindra Thar will also receive a more powerful, BS6-compliant diesel engine replacing the existing 2.5L CRDe motor. The new oil burner is likely to return power worth 140bhp. The all-new Thar lineup might receive the petrol variants with a 2.2L engine delivering 140bhp.
The new-generation Mahindra XUV500, Scorpio and Thar are likely to make their debut at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. With BS6-compliant engines, improved styling and more features, all three models might see a minor price hike.
