The production-ready version of the 2020 Mahindra Thar was recently spotted around Pune. The all-new model looks wider than the existing one. In order to improve its structural integrity, the carmaker will use new platform for the next-generation Thar. The same architecture will underpin the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio.
A few days back, we have reported that the new Thar will come with the petrol engine and automatic gearbox combination. It might get a 2.2L gasoline unit with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Its power and torque outputs will stand around 140bhp and 320Nm respectively.
The 2020 Mahindra Thar will also be offered with a new 2.2L diesel engine pushing out power worth 140bhp. The new oil burner will meet the BS6 emission norms, and come as a replacement to the existing 2.5L CRDe unit. The new Thar diesel will be around 35bhp more powerful than the existing model. Reports suggest that the 2020 Mahindra Thar will be offered with both soft and hard top versions. It will also get front facing seats for the rear passenger. The SUV might also get a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
With several new updates, the 2020 Mahindra Thar will see minor price hike. It’s likely to debut at the 2020 Auto Expo in February and the launch might happen at the event or a few months after its unveiling.
