The second-generation Mahindra Thar is ready to make its global debut next week on 15th August, 2020. While its official launch will happen near around the festive season, we have seen the model (camouflaged) in multiple spy pictures. Though, the latest set of spy images clearly reveals the exterior and interior details of the 2020 Mahindra Thar.
The front fascia of the off-road SUV shares a strong resemblance to the Jeep Wrangler, especially the 7-slat grille. Elements such as LED daytime running lights (DRLs), circular fog lamps integrated on the revised bumper and turn indicators on the fenders further enhance its new look.
The 2020 Mahindra Thar, however, retains the boxy old-school stance. While the entry-level variant will have steel wheels, the blacked out 5-spoke alloy wheels will be reserved for the top-end trim. The Ceat Czar 265/65 R17 tyres will solve the off-roading purposes. At the back, the model has LED taillamps along with the same side-hinged door mounted spare wheel. Coming to the interior, the 2020 Mahindra Thar will be made available with soft top and the factory-fitted hard top (for the first time) options. As you can see in the pictures, the SUV will also receive front facing rear seats for the first time. There is a touchscreen infotainment system that’s likely to support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with USB connectivity.
While the SUV gets a new MID unit, the analogue instrument cluster is carried over from the existing model. Other key features will include steering mounted controls, automatic climate control, leather upholstery (for top-end trim), traction control, dual airbags, hill descent control and more. For the first time, Mahindra Thar will be offered with petrol engine option. Reports suggest that the off-road SUV will get Mahindra’s all-new 2.0L mStallion turbocharged gasoline motor along with a new 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. The diesel version will come with the BS6-compliant version of the 2.2L mHawk unit that will be tuned for generating more power. The oil burner will come with both manual and automatic gearboxes.
Prices of the 2020 Mahindra Thar SUV are estimated to start from Rs 10 lakh for the base variant. It will face challenge from the new-generation Force Gurkha that’s due for during festive season. Official bookings of the new Thar are likely to begin by the end of this month.
