Kia Motors has released the first pictures of the 2020 Kia Rio hatchback ahead of its UK launch that’s scheduled to happen this autumn. The facelifted model receives comprehensive changes inside and out. The biggest update, however, comes in the form of a new 1.0L T-GDI ‘Smartstream’ petrol mild hybrid powertrain. The hybrid system includes a 3-cylinder combustion engine with an integrated starter-generator that reduces its emission levels by 8% as per WLTP standards. It has been tuned for generating two different power outputs – 100bhp and 120bhp. The new Smartstream mild hybrid motor is paired to a newly-developed manual gearbox with electronic control of the clutch.

The 2020 Kia Rio facelift is also available with the naturally-aspirated 84bhp, 1.2L petrol (base model only) and 1.0L petrol engines. One of the major updates made inside the cabin is the new and larger 20.3cm touchscreen infotainment system. It supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay along with the multi-device Bluetooth connectivity. There is a 10cm high-resolution digital display for the driver. The updated Rio also gets the latest UVO Connect telematics system that includes an advanced voice control system, local fuel prices and live traffic information.

While the height adjustable driver’s seat is now standard, the height adjustable passenger seat comes as an option. The hatchback also gets a new Blue colour interior colour pack. On the exterior, the 2020 Kia Rio facelift gets a narrower front grille, full LED headlamps with built-in running lights, wider bumper, new fog lamps surrounds and newly-designed alloy wheels. Now, the hatchback comes in a total of 9 colour schemes including two new shades – Sporty Blue and Perennial Grey.
