The 2020 Hyundai Elite i20 is expected to be unveiled at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo

It is no secret that Hyundai is working on the next-generation models of its existing popular cars. The company will launch the all-new Grand i10 hatchback in the end of this year, followed by next-gen Creta and Elite i20. The company has started testing the new Elite i20 hatchback, which suggests that the hatchback could debut at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. Here we bring you a list of top 5 big changes expected to be offered in the next-generation Hyundai Elite i20 –

– Bigger in size

The spy images clearly reveal that the new Elite i20 will grow in size. It will be wider than the current model. Moreover, the wheelbase could have also been increased to improve the legroom and shoulder space for rear occupants.

– New platform

It is expected that the next-gen Hyundai Elite i20 could use the Venue’s platform. The new platform is compatible enough to accommodate different body styles and powertrains including electric and hybrid. Moreover, the new platform is claimed to be stronger and safer and will be compliant with upcoming crash test norms.

– BS6 Compliant Engines

The 2020 Hyundai Elite i20 will receive the BS6 compliant petrol and diesel engines. The hatchback will be powered by a BS6 compliant 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.4-litre diesel engine, which also powers the existing model.

– 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine

Not just platform, the next-gen Hyundai i20 will also share the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with the new Venue compact SUV. This engine also powers the global-spec i20 and is available in 2 states of tunes – 118bhp/172Nm and 100bhp/172Nm. It is expected that the India-spec model could be fitted with a detuned 100bhp, 1.0L engine.

This engine will be coupled to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission unit that recently debuted in the Venue. Adding to it, a six-speed manual gearbox will also be on offer. This model will directly rival the Maruti Baleno RS and the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI.

– BlueLink Connectivity Solution

The Elite i20 will also receive the Hyundai’s most advanced “Blue Link” connectivity solution. This system is currently offered in the Venue and has 33 new features out of which 10 are India specific.  Some of the features include auto crash notification, emergency assistance, RSA, Stolen vehicle notification, immobilisation, monthly health report, maintenance alert, live traffic, car tracking, etc. It also gets an Artificial Intelligence enabled voice recognition system.
