2020 Hyundai i20 Launch Postponed – Here’re 2 Reasons Why

Hyundai Motor India is ready to launch two new models in coming months – the Tucson facelift and the new-generation i20 hatchback. Exterior and interior details of the 2020 Hyundai i20 have already been revealed via official pictures. A latest report claims that the hatchback’s next-gen model will see a release in the month of October (i.e. just ahead of the festive season). Earlier, it was reported to launch in September, 2020.

There are two main reasons behind its launch delay. Firstly, the company has been receiving overwhelming response for the second-generation Creta and the Verna facelift. The compact SUV gathered around 30,000 bookings within a month of its launch and topped the sales chart in May, 2020. The Verna facelift was recently launched with 3 new engines and several segment-first features at a starting price of Rs 9.30 lakh (ex-showroom).

Secondly, the recent announcement of the complete lockdown in Chennai and some neighbours districts of Tiruvallur, Chengalputtu and Kanchipuram. It might affect the production operations at Hyundai’s Sriperumbedur based (in Kanchipuram district) manufacturing facility. Therefore, the carmaker has postponed the new-generation Hyundai i20 launch by a month. Read – Hyundai Creta 7-Seater SUV To Challenge Tata Gravitas

Talking about the 2020 Hyundai i20, the premium hatchback will witness comprehensive changes inside and out. Some of its key highlights include new LED headlamps, new cascading grille, contrasting roof, Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car technology (offering 33 connected car features), a 10.25-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system (largest in the segment), optional Bose audio system with 8 speakers and more.

The new-generation i20 will be made available with a 99bhp, 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol, a 82bhp, 1.2L naturally-aspirated petrol and a 99bhp, 1.5L diesel engine option. While the turbo-petrol motor will be paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, the 1.2L petrol unit will be hooked with a 5-speed manual. The hatchback lineup will also come with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission option.
