The new-generation Hyundai i20 is ready to hit Indian roads in coming months. Reports suggest that the hatchback’s updated model might see a release in June, 2020. Here, we have listed the top 7 changes that will be made to the 2020 Hyundai i20 hatchback.
1. Sharper Design
The new i20 will look sharper and more mature than the existing generation. The vehicle will receive the signature hexagonal grille, newly-designed headlamps with angular design, revised bumper, sleeker air intake and new fog lamp assembly at the front end. The hatchback will also get LED brake lights, completely revised wing mirror, wider ORVMs and a new set of alloy wheels.
2. Sunroof
The latest spy pictures confirm that the 2020 Hyundai i20 will come with a sunroof. Though, it could be reserved for the top-spec variant.
3. Wider Than Before
The new-generation i20 hatchback will be wider than the existing model. The carmaker might also expand its wheelbase to a few mm. The overall length, width and height of the current model stand at 3985mm, 1734mm and 1505mm respectively. It sits on a 2570mm long wheelbase.
4. Digital Instrument Cluster
The all-new i20 will be the first car in its segment to feature all digital instrument cluster with a 10.25-inch display. The screen changes colour with the drive modes (Normal (Blue), Eco (Green) and Sport (Orange)). Though, it could be exclusively offered on the top-end variants. The unit is likely to be carried over from the second-generation Creta that recently launched in the country.
5. More Features
Compared to the existing model, the 2020 Hyundai i20 will have more features to offer. The hatchback will get a centre console integrated 10.25-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android connectivity. It will also get Hyundai’s BlueLink connectivity suite with Hyundai Live services.
The feature list will also include a Bose sound system, a wireless charging pad, ambient lighting, push button start/stop system, HVAC controls, multiple USB ports, a front centre armrest and more. The new i20 will come in multiple interior trims –Black Mono and Black Gray, Yellow Green and Black Mono.
6. Turbo Engines
Engine setup of the new-generation i20 will include a 1.0L turbo petrol, a 1.2L petrol and a 1.5L diesel. The 1.0L turbo petrol motor, borrowed from the new Aura sedan, delivers a claimed power of 99bhp. While the 1.2L petrol pushes out a peak power of 83bhp, the oil burner returns a maximum power of 115bhp. The hatchback lineup will come in a choice of two gearboxes – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor.
7. Better Mileage
Reports suggest that the 2020 Hyundai i20 diesel will return a fuel economy of around 17kmpl. Mileage figures of the petrol models are yet to be revealed.
