Japanese automaker, Honda has unveiled the 2020 CR-V SUV with refreshed styling, new features and upgraded powertrains. The new Honda CR-V also receives a hybrid version, which is to be built in the company’s Greensburg, Indiana plant. The 2020 CR-V Hybrid is the first electrified SUV from the Honda brand in America, joining the Accord Hybrid and Insight as the third electrified Honda manufactured in the U.S.
The 2020 Honda CR-V comes equipped with advanced two-motor hybrid powertrain, shared with the current Accord Hybrid. It features a 2.0-litre, 16-valve DOHC Atkinson cycle engine coupled with 2 electric motors. The compact intelligent power unit, containing the hybrid battery pack and the its control systems, is mounted under the cargo floor, allowing the new CR-V Hybrid to retain excellent cargo floor. The powertrain offers a combined power output of 212bhp, which is 22bhp more than the previous model. The CR-V Hybrid also marks the first application of all-wheel drive to Honda’s two-motor hybrid system in the U.S.
The standard variants of the 2020 Honda CR-V are powered by the 1.5-litre DOHC, direct-injected VTEC Turbo engine producing 190bhp. Available in front- or all-wheel drive configurations, power is transmitted through a smooth yet sporty continuously variable transmission (CVT) with Honda G-Shift control logic.
In terms of styling changes, the 2020 Honda CR-V gets broader fog lamp housing, chromed grille, round LED fog lights in the standard model, and bar-type fog lights with five LEDs in the hybrid model. The hybrid model gets hybrid badging and a blue Honda logo in the centre of the grille. The new model comes with new dark-tinted taillights and a new dark chrome treatment for the garnish below the rear glass. The non-hybrid model gets new chrome exhaust finishers for a sporty appearance. It will ride on 18- and -19-inch alloy wheels.
The 2020 Honda CR-V gets 3 new exterior colours – Sonic Gray Pearl, Radiant Red Metallic and Aegean Blue Metallic (Non-Hybrid only). Inside, it gets new push-button gear selector with 3 switches for Economy, Sport or EV mode. The instrument console also features a display for power/charge status, as well as a driver selectable display for power distribution and regeneration. CR-V Hybrid models also receive deceleration selector paddles on the steering wheel.
The 2020 Honda CR-V Touring trims now available with Qi-compatible wireless cell phone charging. It gets a 7-inch touchscreen Display Audio interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and an available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System. The 2020 Honda CR-V is now available with Honda Sensing suit of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies as standard. Some of the features include Collision Mitigation braking system with forward collision warning and pedestrian sensing capability, road departure mitigation with lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow and lane keeping assist.
