2020 Honda City – 8 Things You Need To Know

New Honda City 2020

Honda City is one of the most important models from the Japanese carmaker in the Indian market. Now, the mid-size sedan is ready to enter into its fifth-generation with comprehensive aesthetic and feature upgrades. Major mechanical changes will also be made to the vehicle. The 2020 Honda City will make its India debut on 16th February and its launch will happen in mid March. Here, we have listed the top 8 things that you should know about the new-generation City sedan.

2020 Honda City India Launch

1. Bigger Than Before

The new City has grown in size and now it measures 4533 in length, 1748mm in width and 1467mm in height. This makes it 100mm longer and 53mm wider than the current generation. In fact, it’s bigger than the Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz that measure 4440mm and 4490mm in length and 1729mm and 1730mm in width respectively. Though, the height and wheelbase of the City have been trimmed down by 28mm and 11mm respectively. Read – New Honda Compact SUV (Ford EcoSport Rival) Debut in 2021

2. All-New Front Design

Visually, the 2020 Honda City appears more angular than the current generation (especially its front end). The jewel eye LED headlamps are connected via a chrome bar and the three-part bumper has also been revised. There is a thick chrome band on the top of the grille as we have seen in the Amaze and Civic. The prominent character line is running from the front door to the rear, eventually merging with the taillamps. Similar to the current model, the doors have subtle creases at the bottom.

3. Minor Changes at Rear

Minimal changes have been made to the rear section. Compared to the current model, the 2020 Honda City sports differently designed LED taillights with the U-shaped signature light. While the Thai-spec model comes with 185/60 R15 tyres with multi-spoke diamond cut alloy wheels, the India-bound model will get larger size tyres. Read – All-New Honda HR-V Coming Next Year

4. Upmarket Interior

Interior of the India-spec Honda City will share resemblance to the Thai-spec model. Though, it will receive minor changes. The new layout for dashboard with soft-touch upholstery adds a premium touch to its updated cabin. The sedan gets a larger touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Honda might offer its advanced infotainment unit on the India-spec City. The three-spoke steering wheel is all-new featuring angular mounted controls.  The updated City gets touch sensitive controls instead of switches. The climate control switches are placed just below the info unit.

5. BS6 Diesel Engine

The Honda City is already offered with the BS6-compliant 1.5L i-VTEC petrol engine that’s good enough for 119bhp and 145Nm of torque. With the generation change, the carmaker will introduce the BS6 1.5L i-DTEC with CVT automatic gearbox option.

6. Hybrid Powertrain

Apart from the BS6-compliant diesel engine, the 2020 Honda City will receive a BS6 petrol motor with Honda’s compact i-MMD mild hybrid technology.

7. No City RS

The Japanese carmaker introduced the 2020 Honda City RS Sport variant in the Thailand market last year. The sedan’s sporty variant won’t make its way to our market.
