The winner will be announced at the New York Motor Show in April, 2019.
The jury of the World Car of the Year (WCOTY) awards has announced the top contenders for this year’s edition. The top three finalists have been selected across six different categories, including World Car Of The Year Award, World Urban Car Of The Year, World Luxury Car Of the Year, World Performance Car Of The Year, World Car Design Of the Year and World Green Car Of The Year.
Interestingly, the Made-in-India Hyundai Santro hatchback marked its name among top three finalists in the World Urban Car Of The Year category. The other two models are – Suzuki Jimny and Kia Soul. The winner will be announced at the New York Motor Show that will be held from 19th to 28th April, 2019.
In World Car Of The Year Award category, the Volvo S60/V60, Audi e-tron and Jaguar I-Pace made it to the final list. The Jaguar I-Pace and Audi e-tron are also listed in the 2019 World Green Car award category along with the Hyundai Nexo SUV. The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Coupe, Aston Martin Vantage and McLaren 720S are running for the World Performance Car Of The Year award.
The top three contenders for the World Luxury Car Of the Year award are BMW 8 Series, Audi Q8 and Audi A7. The World Car Design Of the Year category is now down to three – Volvo XC40, Jaguar I-Pace and Suzuki Jimny. The nominees for these prestigious awards were announced at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The jury also declared Sergio Marchionne as the 2019 World Car Person of the Year at the event.
