Based on the Volkswagen’s new MQB platform, the new VW T-Cross compact SUV will officially go on sale in international markets in early 2019

German premium carmaker, Volkswagen has teased the 2019 T-Cross compact SUV ahead of debut in the last quarter of this year. The T-Cross Breeze concept was first previewed at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. It will be the brand’s smallest SUV in the global market and is also likely to be arrived in India by 2020-21.

Slotted below the T-ROC crossover, the new Volkswagen T-Cross compact SUV will first go on sale in Europe. This model will also make its way to China and South America. The VW T-Cross compact SUV is based on the company’s new MQB AO platform that also underpins the new-gen Polo. This model measures 4,107mm in length and VW claims that the small SUV will offer spacious cabin for both front and rear occupants. Volkswagen T-Cross is also claimed to be one of the safest vehicles of its class, offering excellent crash properties and several assistance systems. Features like ambient traffic monitoring system and lane assist will come as standard. Not just platform, the T-Cross compact SUV shares several design elements and exterior features with the new-gen Polo hatchback.  While the T-ROC comes with a crossover-ish profile, the VW T-Cross gets more conventional rugged SUV look.

The new VW T-Cross will come with a range of engine options, ranging from 1.0-litre TSI petrol to the range-topping 1.8-litre turbocharged unit. In India, Skoda will lead the development of future products and engine technologies for VW Group. Skoda and Volkswagen will introduce their respective compact SUVs in 2020, both of which will be developed on new MQB AO IN platform. The new model is expected to share design cues and engines from the T-Cross compact SUV.
