The German carmaker is planning to launch the new-generation Volkswagen Polo GTI in the Indian market, claims a report. While the global-spec model of the hot hatch based on the MQB platform, VW might use the lost-cost MQB A0 IN for its India-spec version. This architecture will also underpin Volkswagen and Skoda’s upcoming vehicles.
The report further suggests that the company might initially bring in the MQB-based 2018 Volkswagen Polo GTI and begin its local production at a later stage. The VW Polo GTI is the company’s first three-door hot-hatch (imported) that was launched at Rs 26 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Though, it witnessed a price cut after GST. The sixth-generation Volkswagen Polo GTI features a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo petrol engine benefited with direct injection technology. This gasoline unit produces 197bhp at 6,000rpm and 320Nm of torque at 1,500rpm-4,400rpm, thus making it 5bhp more powerful and 70Nm torquier than the current model.
The new Polo GTI is slightly faster than the outgoing model. While the existing model delivers a top speed of 237kmph, the new one is capable to attain 236kmph. Some of its key features include a 6.5 touchscreen infotainment system (optional 8.0-inch touchscreen) with Car-net applications, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a fully digital instrument console (first time ever), a 300W Beats sound system and several driver assistance systems.
