Set to rival Ford EcoSport and Maruti Vitara Brezza, the 2018 Tata Nexon AMT will be launched before the end of this fiscal year.
Tata Motors, the homegrown UV maker is all set to launch the much-awaited Nexon compact SUV in the Indian market. This vehicle will initially come in manual avatar only. However, Tata has confirmed that the vehicle will also get automatic versions. The 2018 Tata Nexon AMT will be launched before the end of this fiscal year. It is expected that the AMT version will be launched at the Delhi Auto Expo 2018 in February. Ahead of its launch, the spyshots of the vehicles have been surfaced on the web.
Going by the spy images, it is visible that the Nexon AMT will get a six-speed AMT unit sourced from Magneti Marelli. This gearbox unit seems identical to the one offered with Tata Tiago and Zest. However, housing of the gear selector is different. While the Tiago AMT gets a five-speed unit, the Tata Nexon AMT is likely to get a six-speed unit. The Nexon will be offered in petrol and diesel avatars. Both petrol and diesel models are equipped with the same TA6300 gearbox. As a reminder, the Nexon compact SUV is available with two engine options – a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol and a 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel. The gasoline engine is basically the more powerful version of the Tiago’s engine and is capable of producing 108bhp of power and 170Nm of torque. On the other hand, the oil burner is capable of producing 108bhp of power and 260Nm of torque. The Nexon is the most powerful SUV in its league. The Tata Nexon AMT is equipped with several segment leading features including a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It comes equipped with an 8-speaker Harman-sourced audio system, standard dual airbags and ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic BrakeForce Distribution), projector headlamps with DRLs, automatic climate control, rear AC vents and multi-functional steering wheels. The company has confirmed that the AMT equipped Nexon will be launched before the end of this fiscal year. We believe that the SUV could be launched at the Delhi Auto Expo 2018.

It is expected that the AMT gearbox will be offered on the top-spec petrol and diesel versions of the Nexon SUV. While the petrol AMT is expected to cost around Rs 8 lakh, the diesel model could be priced around Rs 10 lakh.

Like the manual Nexon, the AMT version will be offered in both petrol and diesel guise. While the gasoline unit is the same 1.2-litre turbocharged motor that is good for 108bhp and 170Nm, the oil burner is a new 1.5-litre Revotorq unit that produces 108bhp and 260Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a six-speed AMT unit, which is sourced from Magneti Marelli. It will also get multi-drive modes with an option between Eco, City and Sport modes.
We believe that the new Nexon AMT will return close to 18-19kmpl in petrol and over 23kmpl in diesel version.
This sub-4 meter SUV is based on Tata Motors’ modified X1 platform that also underpins the Bolt. It measures 3,995mm in length, 1,730mm in width and 1,600mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,470mm. This compact SUV comes with a ground clearance of 200mm, which is more than sufficient to tackle Indian road conditions.
