Set to rival Ford EcoSport and Maruti Vitara Brezza, the 2018 Tata Nexon AMT will be launched before the end of this fiscal year.
Tata Motors, the homgrown UV maker is all set to launch the much-awaited Nexon compact SUV in the Indian market in August 2017. The company will initially launch this SUV in manual avatar only. However, the company has confirmed that the vehicle will also get automatic versions. The 2018 Tata Nexon AMT will be launched before the end of this fiscal year. We expect that the AMT version could be launched at the Delhi Auto Expo 2018 in February.
The Nexon will be offered in petrol and diesel avatars. Both petrol and diesel models are equipped with the same TA6300 gearbox. It is expected that the AMT gearbox will be offered with the both petrol and the diesel. The AMT unit is also expected to be a six-speed unit with twin pedal system. As a reminder, the Nexon compact SUV is available with two engine options – a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol and a 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel. The gasoline engine is basically the more powerful version of the Tiago’s engine and is capable of producing 108bhp of power and 170Nm of torque. On the other hand, the oil burner is capable of producing 108bhp of power and 260Nm of torque. The Nexon is the most powerful SUV in its league. The Tata Nexon AMT is equipped with several segment leading features including a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It comes equipped with an 8-speaker Harman-sourced audio system, standard dual airbags and ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic BrakeForce Distribution), projector headlamps with DRLs, automatic climate control, rear AC vents and multi-functional steering wheels. The Nexon compact SUV will directly rival the Ford EcoSport and the Maruti Vitara Brezza. This sub-4 meter SUV is based on Tata Motors’ modified X1 platform that also underpins the Bolt. It measures 3,995mm in length, 1,730mm in width and 1,600mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,470mm. This compact SUV comes with a ground clearance of 200mm, which is more than sufficient to tackle Indian road conditions.
