New Mercedes-Benz S-Class 2018 facelift has finally been launched in the Indian market. Available in two variants – S350d and S 450 – the 2018 Mercedes S-Class – is priced at Rs 1.33 crore and Rs 1.37 crore respectively. One must note that the aforementioned prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.

Interestingly, the updated S 350d is the company’s first made-in-India BSVI compliant diesel and third BSVI compliant model in the country. The 2018 Mercedes S-Class makes use of an all-new in-line, 6-cylinder diesel engine that meets BS (Bharat Stage) VI emission norms, while running on the lower grade BSIV fuel. This also makes it Mercedes’ first BSVI compliant car in India. The new oil burner has been introduced as a replacement to the 3.0-litre V6 diesel unit. While the former makes 286bhp against 600Nm of torque, the latter one is good for 258bhp and 620Nm.

2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Facelift

Compared to its replacement, the power figure of the new diesel motor is up by 23bhp and torque is down by 20Nm. The all-new BSVI compliant diesel engine is matched to a 9-speed ZF automatic gearbox. On the other hand, the 2018 Mercedes S-Class petrol is continue to come with the 3.0-litre V8 unit paired to an automatic transmission. It delivers 367bhp with 500Nm of torque. While the gasoline unit can do 0-100kmph in 5.1 seconds, the new oil burner accelerates 0-100kmph in 6 seconds. The top speed of both the powertrains stands at 250kmph. Suspension mechanism of the 2018 Mercedes S-Class includes a state-of-the-art Airmatic pneumatic unit. The luxury saloon also comes with ESP (electronic stability program) and multiple drive assistance features. It’s the first Mercedes to feature the exhaust after-treatment technology.

On the exterior, the 2018 Mercedes S-Class features a wider front grille, new adaptive intelligent LED headlamps, revised front and rear bumpers, newly-designed alloy wheels and updated taillamp assembly. The larger dashboard with premium wooden inserts, new wood and leather trim options, additional ambient lighting and new fragrance add more to its feel and appeal. The panoramic sunroof, mirrors, steering and seats are electrically adjustable. It gets reclining and massage rear seats and rear seat entertainment package as standard. Features such as four-zone climate control, ventilated seats with body massage functions, heated and cooled cup holders and individual screens for the rear occupants are carried over from the old model.
