Deliveries of the new 2018 Honda Gold Wing have been commenced across the nation. Available in two variants – Standard and Gold Wing Tour – Honda’s flagship tourer is available at a starting price of Rs 26.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Claimed to be the “lighter, more powerful and extremely nimble”, the tourer receives a newly-developed, more powerful 6-cylinder engine with the third generation DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission).
Interestingly, the 2018 Honda Gold Wing is the company’s first bike to feature a double wishbone front suspension. It also gets an all-new design and chassis. For 2018 model year, the Honda Gold Wing gets sharper design with a new small front fairing. The bike also features an electrically adjustable windscreen. The significantly big panniers and top box provide storage space up to 110-litres. Ditching the conventional instrument cluster, the 2018 Honda Gold Wing gets a new 7-inch full-colour TFT display. Upfront, the new 2018 Honda Gold Wing sports full LED headlamps with auto cancelling indicators, and a smart key control. The audio unit has been carried over from the old model. The tourer is available in a single ‘Candy Ardent Red’ colour option. Compared to the old model, the 2018 Gold Wing is 48kg lighter that aids to its overall performance. In fact, its new chassis weighs 2kg lighter than its predecessor.
At the heart of the 2018 Honda Gold Wing is a more refined and powerful 1833cc six-cylinder engine. This motor has four valves per cylinder, and pushes out a maximum power of 125bhp at 5500rpm and a peak torque of 170Nm at 4500rpm. While the global model of the tourer comes with a 6-speed gearbox, the India-spec version has an advanced 7-speed DCT automatic unit. The 2018 Honda Gold Wing comes packed with the Throttle by Wire system offering four riding modes – Tour, Sport, Rain and Econ. It’s Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) that offers three levels of control suspension system for heightened rider control. For a quick start, the bike has force Idling Stop and ISG (Integrated Starter Generator). The tourer also gets ABS (anti-lock braking system), Dual-Combined Braking System (D-CBS) and Hill Start Assist.
