The 2017 Royal Enfield Classic 500 BS4 version is now available for retail across authorized RE showrooms in India at a sticker price of Rs 1.73 lakh (on-road, Delhi). As the name suggests, the model has been upgraded to BS IV emission norms to comply with the recent norms forced by Supreme Court, additionally it has received changes in line with Classic 350 and Thunderbird 350 models in the range. Mechanically, it retains the same 499cc, single-cylinder unit from the previous version. The engine continues to put out same power and torque output mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Suspension system on the bike comprises of 35mm front telescopic forks and twin shock absorbers at rear. Power to retard speed comes from 280mm disc unit with 2-Piston calliper at front and 153mm drum brake at rear.
The company recently revealed the 500 Battle Green version of the motorcycle with an additional sidecar at the BIMS 2017 (Bangkok International Motorcycle Show). Dimensionally, it measures 2,149mm in length, 790mm in width and 1,090mm in height. It has a 1,360mm long wheelbase, robust fuel tank with a capacity of 13.50-litres and a high ground clearance of 135mm. In terms of design, the bike sports a vintage look with post war type styling. The use of chrome on the bike enhances its premium looks, although it is a bit over the top. In front, it comes with the traditional instrument cluster and other elements from RE bikes. The round-shaped headlamp in front, conventional tail-lamp at rear and the intricate chrome work on the body are in line with its vintage look.
