Japanese car manufacturer, Toyota is extensively testing the next generation Innova MPV and Fortuner SUV ahead of their global debut next year. The 2016 Innova MPV has been spotted testing in Bangalore, Karnataka by IAB reader, Mr. Ananda Siddharta. Moreover, the new model will be manufactured at the Toyota Kirloskar Motor manufacturing unit in Bidadi, Karnataka.
The next generation Innova has been put on extensive testing in India and Thailand. Instead of the current Hilux platform, the new Innova is based on a new ladder-frame chassis. The new platform will also underpin the next generation Fortuner. With the use of this architecture, the company will be able to share components among cars which make them price competitive.
The new model is reportedly slightly larger than the current generation model and will offer a more spacious cabin. The 2016 Innova gets a newly designed grille which is flanked by new headlamps. Its rear profile too gets updates including restyled tail lamps. The next generation Toyota Innova will get a new range of diesel powertrains which are under development. Moreover, the diesel engine is likely to feature a new automatic transmission gearbox.
