Volvo will unveil the second generation XC90 SUV at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October. Based on the all new Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), the 2015 XC90 will go on sale by year end. The new model will be more premium than the current generation model, and it is claimed to the world’s fastest and cleanest SUV.
The all-new Volvo XC90 features all-wheel drive system and offers drivers up to 400 horsepower but with carbon dioxide emissions of around 60g/km. The new XC90 will be offered in a range of Drive-E engine options and all the engines are four-cylinder engines.
The top-of-range engine will be a T8-badged petrol electric hybrid model which is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder supercharged and turbocharged unit in combination with an electric motor that produced 79bhp. At the push of button the driver can switch to pure electric power where the range will be around 40 kilometres, and then, when needed, revert back to hybrid model, with combined power output of about 400bhp and 640Nm of torque.
The Volvo XC90 range also includes the D5 twin turbo diesel engine with 225bhp and 470Nm of top torque, and the D4 turbo diesel engine with 190bhp and 400Nm of top torque. It also gets two petrol engine options. The first is a T6 turbo engine with supercharger and turbo with 320 hp and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. The second is a T5 with 254 hp and 350 Nm.
