2 Upcoming New Tata SUVs Spotted Together – HBX, Hexa 4X4

Tata Motors is ready to roll out an exciting range of SUVs in coming months. The carmaker has already announced that the new Tata Safari (codenamed Gravitas) will make debut on 26th January, followed by its launch. It will be Tata’s flagship SUV that will challenge the newly-launched MG Hector 7-seater and the upcoming new-generation Mahindra XUV500. The home-grown carmaker has also planned the Tata HBX concept based mini SUV and Tata Hexa 4X4, which were recently caught testing on camera together.

Talking about the bigger SUV, the spotted model was the Tata Hex Safari Edition that broke cover at the last year’s Auto Expo. Painted in Camo Green shade, the SUV features 5-spoke, 17-inch alloy wheels instead of the standard 17-inch steel rims, horizontal taillamps connected via thick chrome bar and a special badging. It also gets dual-tone Beige and Black interior theme. Most of its design bits and features are exactly similar to the regular model.

For power, the new Tata Hexa 4X4 will use a BS6-compliant 2.2L, 4-cylinder ‘Varicor’ turbocharged diesel engine with 4X4 drivetrain system. The motor has been tuned for generating power worth 156PS and 400Nm of torque, thus making it 2PS more powerful than its BS4 version. There will be three gearboxes on offer – 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic.

Tata HBX concept based micro SUV is reported to arrive in May 2021 with a new nameplate – ‘Tata Timero’. Design and styling of the model will share resemblance with the Harrier, especially the front fascia. Designed on Tata’s Alfa platform, the HBX is likely to come with 1.2L petrol naturally aspirated and 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine options. The latter one could be reserved for the higher trims. The HBX will be made available with both manual and automatic gearbox. It will be placed against the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and the upcoming Hyundai AX1 mini SUV.
