2 New Mahindra SUVs Confirmed For This Year

Mahindra & Mahindra has several new products in the pipeline and most of these launches have been delayed due to ongoing pandemic. The carmaker has confirmed that the new-generation Mahindra XUV500 and Scorpio will make their way early next year. The second-generation Mahindra Thar and XUV300 Sportz have been planned for 2020. While the new Thar off-road SUV is scheduled to launch in early October, the sportier and more powerful version of the XUV300 might come by the end of this year.

Talking about the 2020 Mahindra Thar, the off-road SUV will witness significant changes inside and out. In fact, major update will also be made under the hood. With the generation change, the new Thar will receive an all-new 2.0L mStallion turbocharged petrol engine and the upgraded 2.2L mHawk diesel motor. While the former will be good enough for 190bhp and 380Nm, the latter one will make 140bhp and 350Nm.

Interestingly, both powertrains will be offered with a 6-speed Aisin torque converter automatic gearbox. The All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) system will be standard on the lineup. Some of it key features will include removable roof panels, optional factory-fitted hard top, LED DRLs, a touchscreen infotainment system, a MID, climate control, cruise control, rear disc brakes, forward facing rear seats and more standard safety features.

Mahindra XUV300 Sportz was first previewed at this year’s Auto Expo and was slated to launch in April, 2020. However, it has been postponed for later this year. One must note that its official launch date and details are yet to be announced by the company. The XUV300 Sportz will be one of the first Mahindra cars to feature the new BS6 130bhp, 1.2L mStallion turbo petrol engine. This will make it 20bhp more powerful than the standard model.

Interior also looks slightly different with contrast red stitching on seats, red highlights on the dashboard and all-black interior theme. It will also be the first Mahindra model to be designed on Made-in-India MESA platform.
