11 Upcoming Important Launches In 2022 – New Cars, Bikes

Here’s a list of top important upcoming cars and bikes to be launched in the Indian market in 2022 –

1. Kia Carens – Launch Before March 2022

It will be the brand’s 4th product in the country. The Kia Carens will be produced in India for domestic as well as foreign markets. It is based on the SP2 platform that underpins the Seltos. The new Carens will rival the likes of the Suzuki XL6, Mahindra Marazzo, Hyundai Alcazar and the lower-end variants of the Toyota Innova Crysta. The new model will be offered with 3 engine options – a 113bhp, 1.5L NA petrol, a 113bhp, 1.5L turbo-diesel & a 138bhp, 1.4L turbo-petrol.

2. New Mahindra Scorpio – Launch By Mid-2022

After the successful launch of new Thar and XUV700, Mahindra is now readying to launch the new generation Scorpio in mid-2022. The new model will grow in size and will be more premium than the current model. It is likely to be offered with two seating layouts – 6 and 7-seats. The new model will be offered with two engine options – a 2.0L turbocharged petrol and a 2.2L turbocharged diesel. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

3. New Maruti Brezza – Q2, 2022

Maruti Suzuki is all set to give a big makeover to its popular Vitara Brezza, which has recently been leaked on the web-world. The sub-4 meter SUV will receive major design changes and completely revised interior. It will be equipped with high-end features such as 6 airbags, electric sunroof, paddle shifters, a larger touchscreen infotainment system, eSIM based connectivity features and others. It will be powered by a 1.5L NA petrol engine with a stronger hybrid system with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

4. New Maruti Alto – Second Half of 2022

Maruti Suzuki’s popular Alto hatchback will receive a generation change before the end of 2022. The new model will be based on the lightweight HEARTECT platform that underpins S-Presso and the new Celerio. The new model will grow in size and will offer more space inside the cabin. Adding to it, the small car could get a touchscreen infotainment system with connectivity options. The new Alto will be offered with a 1.0L Dualjet petrol along with an 800cc 3-cylinder petrol engine.

5. MG Electric Crossover – End of 2022

MG Motors has officially announced to launch an all-new electric crossover in India before the end of 2022-23 financial year. It is claimed to be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh. The new MG e-SUV will rival the Tata Nexon EV, which currently accounts for over 60 percent market share. The new model will be an electric crossover vehicle based on a global platform but customised for the Indian market.

6. Honda City Hybrid – Mid-2022

Honda has officially announced to launch the new City hybrid sedan before the end of this year. While most of the automakers are investing in Electric Vehicles, Honda hopes to regain lost market share by introducing the highly fuel efficient City hybrid. It is claimed to return over 27kmpl of mileage, which will make it India’s most fuel efficient car.

7. Citroen C3 – Q2, 2022

Citroen will launch its first locally developed model – the Citroen C3 in the second quarter of 2022, most probably in April. The new model will be based on the heavily localised CMP (Common Modular Platform), which will be used to develop future Citroen cars in India. It will rival the likes of the Tata Punch, Maruti Ignis and the Hyundai Santro. The new C3 is expected to be powered by a 1.2L NA petrol or a 1.2L turbo-petrol engine.

8. Jeep Meridian 7-Seater SUV – Mid-2022

American SUV maker, Jeep will launch the 7-seater version of the Compass SUV in 2022. Likely to be called the Meridian, the new SUV will be based on the Jeep Commander that is on sale in Brazil. The new Meridian will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and the Skoda Kodiaq. The new 3-row SUV production will commence at FCA’s Ranjangaon facility by April 2022. The production plant will also serve as the base for exporting the Jeep Meridian SUV to other RHD (Right-Hand-Drive) markets across the globe. The upcoming Jeep Meridian will be powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that also powers the Compass. This engine is capable of producing 173bhp and 200Nm of torque. It is also likely to get a 48V mild hybrid system, which should improve its efficiency. A 9-speed automatic gearbox will come as standard.

9. Re-Introduction Of Yezdi – January 13

After reviving the Jawa and the BSA Motorbike, Classic Legends is all set to revive the iconic Yezdi motorcycle brand on January 13, 2022. The company will introduce two new motorcycles – Roadking scrambler and Adventure bike. The new bikes are expected to be based on the Jawa platform and are likely to share the engine with the Perak.

10. Royal Enfield Shotgun, Super Meteor 650 – End of 2022

Royal Enfield is preparing two new 650cc motorcycles – the Super Meteor and the Shotgun 650. The Super Meteor 650 will sit above the Interceptor 650 and the Continental GT 650. It shares styling cues from the KX Concept. The RE Shotgun 650 will be the production-ready version of the RE SG650 concept, which was unveiled at the 2021 EICMA motor show in Italy.  Both bikes will be powered by a 648cc parallel-twin engine that powers the Interceptor and the Continental GT. This engine produces 47bhp and 52Nm of torque. The bikes will get a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper and assist clutch. ‘

11. RE Hunter 350 – Mid-2022

Royal Enfield is working on a new entry-level 350cc Classic motorcycle, which is rumoured to be called the Hunter 350. It will be lighter than the other 350cc siblings, and will be positioned against the Honda CB350RS. The new bike will be designed and developed on the ‘J’ platform that underpins the Meteor 350 and the Classic 350. It is likely to be powered by the same 349cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 20.2bhp and 27Nm of torque, and paired to a 6-speed gearbox.
