Kia India registered over 76% Year-on-Year (Y-o-Y) growth as against the industry Y-o-Y growth of 49% in the month of July, 2021. The South Korean automaker recorded total sales of 15016 units including 7,675 units of Sonet, 6,983 units of Seltos and 358 units of Carnival MPV. The company also announced that it achieved one lakh sales milestone in the calendar year 2021. Recently, Kia introduced attractive finance schemes for its customers, offering multiple flexible repayment options and other convenience benefits across its entire product portfolio.
In May 2021, the Korean carmaker crossed the 2.5 lakh cumulative sales milestone with 70% and 28% contribution from Seltos and Sonet respectively. The company aims to achieve 30% Y-o-Y (Year-on-Year) growth in fiscal year 2022. Recently, Kia changed its name and logo while updating the Seltos and Sonet SUVs.
The carmaker has already confirmed that its fourth product in India will arrive early 2022. It’s likely to be a compact MPV based on the Seltos’ platform. Codenamed Kia KY, the MPV will take head-to-head against the Maruti Ertiga, Mahindra Marazzo and the upcoming Hyundai and MG compact MPVs. The new Kia MPV is likely to derive its design inspiration, features and engines from the Seltos. That means, it could be offered with the 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, 1.4L turbo GDI petrol and 1.5L turbo CRDi diesel engine options.
The upcoming Kia KY compact MPV could be offered with the 6 and 7-seats layouts. Its length will be around 4.5 meters, thus making it 190mm longer than the Seltos. In India, the three-row MPV will be produced at the carmaker’s Anantapur based facility. The company might also export it to other Asian markets including Indonesia. As per the leaked report, Kia aims to sell 50,000 units of the MPV in India and export 25,000 units on annual basis.
