– Price of the SUV could fall in the range of Rs 25-30 lakh.

Mahindra & Mahindra has a handful of new products for the Indian market. While the Mahindra XUV300 five-seater is ready to launch in coming days, the new MPV will hit showrooms in September, 2018. Interestingly, the home-grown carmaker will foray into fully-flagged premium SUV segment with the all-new Mahindra SsangYong Rexton (Mahindra Rexton). Mahindra’s new 7-seater SUV, which is essentially a re-badged version of the new-generation SsangYong Rexton, will go up against the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour rival that are currently leading the segment.

First previewed at the 2017 Seoul Motor Show, the all-new SsangYong Rexton SUV will go on sale in India wearing the Mahindra badge (and not SsangYong). One musst note that the official name of Mahindra’s new flagship SUV is yet to be revealed by the carmaker. Reports suggest that it could be named ‘Mahindra Rexton’ or ‘Mahindra XUV700’ in the country. Read: New Mahindra 7-Seater SUV – 5 Interesting Facts

Just to jog your memory, Mahindra acquired the majority stake (70%) in SsangYong Motor Company (SYMC) in 2010. Aiming to reap the benefits of this move, the carmakers jointly developed engine platform for their products including Mahindra KUV100 NXT and Tivoli hatchback. After eight years of the acquisition, the home-grown carmaker is planning to bring in SsangYong’s iconic flagship SUV – Rexton – in the Indian market.

Mahindra SsangYong Rexton 2018 Exterior

Design inspiration of the SsangYong Rexton (global-spec) is said to be come from the polar bear and traditional ‘Korean aesthetics”. Based on the concept of ‘Dignified Motion’, the new Mahindra Rexton retains most of its styling bits from the SsangYong LIV-2 Concept that was previewed in 2016 at the Paris Motor Show. The production version of the SUV looks more aggressive and sportier than the concept. It carries the quintessential Mahindra elements that bring it on par with fellow Mahindra models.

With hefty body-built and bold stance, the SUV appears masculine and sporty. Its dual-tone black/chrome upper grille has a chrome appliqué with thick chrome slats gloss black frame and gloss black thin vertical slats. The HID new headlamps with LED daytime running lights (DRLs), revised bumper, black body cladding, LED fog lamps and directional indicators further enhance aggressive look of its front fascia. The new Mahindra 7 seater SUV also comes with an electric sunroof. Compared to its global old model, the SUV appears sportier from the sides thanks to its sharp creases, sloping roofline, slim A & B pillars and squared-shaped wheel arches with 20-inch alloy wheels. Round the back, the Mahindra Rexton features LED rear combination side lights, spoiler with high-mounted LED stop light and LED number plate lights. Read – Mahindra U321 MPV – All You Need To Know

The dashboard has neat design with premium materials including a wood-finish strip and a diamond pattern leather strip running across the length. The SUV also comes equipped with the vertically-placed touchscreen interface, three spoke steering wheel with audio & telephone control buttons and leather seats.

What further enhance its comfort and convenience levels are selectable all-wheel drive system, airbags for all passengers, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS navigation, dual zone fully automatic, built-in air-clean system air conditioning, nine airbags, electric parking brake etc. While the driver’s seat is 8-way power adjustable, the front passenger seat comes with 6-way power adjustment options.
