The Japanese automaker has finally introduced the new generation model of the hugely popular Toyota Fortuner SUV in the Indian car market. Based on the company's all-new platform, the new Toyota Fortuner 2017 is longer and wider than the current model. The SUV directly rival against the Ford Endeavour, Hyundai Santa Fe and the Chevrolet Trailblazer.
All-New Diesel Engine - The new Fortuner is available with all-new 'GD' diesel engine - a 2.8-litre unit - that returns improved fuel efficiency and high performance. This engine is capable of producing 177bhp of power at 3,400rpm and a peak torque of 450Nm at 1,600rpm - 2,400rpm (420Nm for MT). This engine replaces the older 2.5-litre and 3.0-litre diesel engines.
New Gearbox – Along with new engine options, the SUV gets all-new transmission options. While a 6-speed manual gearbox driving the power to rear wheels come as standard, a 6-speed automatic is available as an optional with AWD system.
Petrol Option - Seeing the growing demand for petrol cars, the Japanese automaker has introduced a petrol version of the Toyota Fortuner 2017. Powering the SUV is a 2.7-litre, 4-cylinder, DOHC dual VVT-i engine that also powers the new Toyota Innova Crysta. This engine churns out a maximum power output of 166bhp and a peak torque of 245Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.
Feature-loaded Cabin - The new model comes with spacious and luxurious cabin, which is equipped with a range of high-end features. The top-end model comes equipped with an 8-way electrically adjustable driver seat, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, bluetooth, digital audio broadcasting and radio, leather seats, an intelligent manual transmission, paddle shifters, etc.
New Rear - The tail looks rather impressive with all-new design elements. There is a uniquely designed C-pillar, wraparound rear windshield and stylish taillamps completes the rear design. It also gets roof-mounted spoiler and large bumper with chrome bar that positioned between the taillamps.
New Look - The SUV carries forward the same boxy profile from the earlier Fortuner. It features new headlamps, grille and kinked window that give it a sportier styling.
New Design but Similar in Dimensions- Despite being an all-new product, the overall dimensions of the SUV remain unchanged. The SUV measures 4,795mm in length, 1,855mm in width and 1,835mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,745mm. It comes with a ground clearance of 275mm, which is sufficient enough to tackle Indian road conditions.
High On Safety - Equipped with 7 airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, Trailer Sway Control, Traction Control System, Electronic Stability Control, Reverse Camera and Parking and Hill Start Assist Control, the new Fortuner ensures safety and security of both passengers as well as car.
