The 2016 Geneva Motor Show witnessed debut of another legendary set of wheels this Tuesday. Maserati, the century old Italian brand, unveiled its first SUV – the Levante. The SUV embarks on its commercial journey with a hefty price tag of £54K. A potential contender, it will be presenting a worthy challenge to the likes of Bentley Bentayga and Jaguar F-Pace. What makes this story more interesting is that it is the first submission from Maserati in the SUV world. We expect that the battle for crown in this segment will be nothing less than the real life ‘game of thrones’. How well Maserati has prepared its warrior for the battle, let’s find out.
At first glance, the SUV looks like a regular SUV which is a bit surprising for a brand that is known for flaunting magnificence and finesse. The front fascia gets embellished with shark-gill air dam and an oblong C-pillar with Maserati logo on it. The headlamps are tapered and bestow a sharp look to the car.
The rear window of the car is bit tapered and get streamlines throughout the rear section of the car. The side profile dictates a typical Italian flair with sporty creases and flowing lines. On the rear end, the roof spoiler along with steep windscreen gives a jacked up look to the car.
Surprisingly, Maserati Levante breathes through a smaller heart as compared to its close rivals. Its hood comes loaded with a twin-turbo V6 oil burner that yields 430-hp power figure. The car rises from 0-100kmph within 5.2-seconds.
On the inside, the Levante’s architecture takes cues from Ghlibi sedans and Maserati’s Quattroporte. The seats come wrapped in leather along with hundred per cent Zenga silk trim. It accommodates five adults in one go.
As per Maserati executive, it has complete off-road capability along with the lowest level of center of gravity in its segment. It is perfect with 50/50 ratio between front and rear corner. It ensures smooth handling on all corners.
